Easter Concert
Orchestra della Toscana
Diego Ceretta conductor
Alexandra Conunova violin

***

Programme:
Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy / Violin Concerto, Op. 64
Ludwig van Beethoven / The Creatures of Prometheus, Op. 43, Overture
Ludwig van Beethoven / Symphony No. 8, Op. 93

The Easter Concert is conducted by Diego Ceretta, principal conductor of the Orchestra della Toscana. Alexandra Conunova performs Felix Mendelssohn’s Concerto for Violin and Orchestra, Op. 64, one of the most beloved works in the Romantic violin repertoire, characterised by formal balance, a continuous musical flow and intense expressiveness.

The solo part gets straight to the heart of the work, with a score that combines elegance and expressive tension. The programme continues in the spirit of Ludwig van Beethoven with the overture from The Creatures of Prometheus, Op. 43, taken from the ballet composed for Vienna in 1801.

The concert concludes with the Symphony No. 8, Op. 93, a compact and brilliant work in which Beethoven reinterprets certain aspects of the classical tradition with freedom and irony.
