Programme:
Johannes Brahms / Piano Concerto No. 2, Op. 83
Johannes Brahms / Symphony No. 3, Op. 90
An evening entirely dedicated to Johannes Brahms brings together Diego Ceretta, the Orchestra della Toscana and pianist Pietro De Maria.
The programme opens with the Piano Concerto No. 2 in B flat major, Op. 83, a sweeping work that combines virtuosic writing, chamber-like density and a strong integration between piano and orchestra. The almost symphonic dimension of the score places the soloist in a continuous dialogue with the orchestral sections.
In the second half, the ORT tackles the Symphony No. 3, Op. 90, a compact and intense work, characterised by a particular variety of expressive qualities and one of the most intimate finales in Brahms’ symphonic output.
The concert forms part of the celebrations for the Festa della Toscana.
