To mark the 60th anniversary of the flood that struck Florence, an evening of music to ensure those days are not forgotten. A dramatic chapter in the city’s history, characterised by a response of solidarity, energy and culture – forces capable of uniting people, rebuilding and looking to the future.
The “Rossini” Philharmonic, conducted by Maestro Giampaolo Lazzeri, commemorates the 1966 Flood with an evening of music and remembrance. The band lost everything – instruments, uniforms and archives – except for the courage and determination to bounce back that inspired the entire city.
The programme features symphonic masterpieces rediscovered at the National Library, the most beloved songs of the Florentine tradition sung by Lorenzo Andreaggi, a favourite pupil of Narciso Parigi, and the premiere of “Oltre il Diluvio” by Davide Boario, an unpublished piece dedicated to the “Angels of the Mud” and commissioned for the occasion.
A concert-performance at the Teatro Verdi – itself affected by the Arno’s fury – to ensure we do not forget the past whilst looking to the future.
