Program:
Anton Webern / Langsamer Satz
Richard Strauss / Duet-Concertino for Clarinet and Bassoon
Felix Mendelssohn /  Simphony No. 1 Op. 11

A programme that spans the 20th and 19th centuries, with two leading orchestral soloists and a house conductor. On the podium is Diego Ceretta, principal conductor of the ORT, here engaged in a repertoire that alternates chamber music intimacy and symphonic vigour.

We begin with Anton Webern‘s Langsamer Satz, composed in 1905: a youthful and still late-Romantic page for strings, inspired by the affective world of Brahms and Mahler, dense with melancholic cantabile. This is followed by the Duetto-Concertino for clarinet, bassoon, strings and harp by Richard Strauss, written in 1947: an instrumental fable in a single act, in which the two instruments chase each other, challenge each other and finally tune. A light music, full of charm and allusions.

The soloists are Emilio Checchini on clarinet and Umberto Codecà on bassoon, first parts of the ORT.
Felix Mendelssohn‘s Symphony No. 1 op. 11, composed at the age of fifteen, closes the concert: a surprising debut, which blends formal rigour, youthful enthusiasm and that lyrical vein that will be the hallmark of his mature style.
